Autonomous Vehicles

An automated driving system is a complex combinations of various components that can be defined as systems where perception, decision making, and operation of the automobile are performed by electronics and machinery instead of a human driver, and as introduction of automation into road traffic. This includes handling of the vehicle, destination, as well as awareness of surroundings. While the automated system has control over the vehicle, it allows the human operator to leave all responsibilities to the system.

An automated driving system requires that data is ingested and analyzed at the edge in real-time. The driving system collects massive amounts of information about its surroundings and utilize this data to make near instantaneous decisions. Not all data that is collected is stored, only portion of the data that can be sent back to the Enterprise or Cloud for further processing. This data is analyzed, insights are formed and changes and information is sent back out to the Autonomous vehicles. The new information will update all vehicles in the system creating a continuous loop of improvements. YottaStor’s Patented Edge Process of data ingest, learning at the edge, data dissemination to the enterprise or cloud and the continual feedback to the edge is the seminal process that is used by all autonomous systems.

The Process Matters

The Edge is the new IT Frontier, billions of new sensors are coming online creating a massive amount of distributed data. Data must be efficiently processed and shared among edge devices and the enterprise to provide timely insights. YottaStor’s Patented Process ensures that the Edge completes the Cloud by providing an end to end process for data processing and sharing. Edge to Edge, Edge to Cloud and Cloud to Edge, YottaStor has it covered.

Provisioning Edge Cloud Devices

The Edge is not a place for Dev Ops, The Edge is where data is created and analyzed. Therefore every Edge device must be provisioned before it is transported to a secondary location. New smart cars are preloaded with the sensor ready to go before leaving the factory.

Edge Devices can be Mobile

The Edge devices do not live in the cloud or the Enterprise, they live at the edge and can be mobile. The smart car is a mobile IT Container with storage, processing and networking.

Edge Devices can be Connected

Many Edge Devices today are connected with their peers. The vehicles of today are connected to other vehicles forming Clustered Peer-to-Peer, Edge Cloud Devices.

Edge Devices are Secure

Before an Edge Cloud Device can be admitted into an existing Peer-to-Peer cluster it must be authenticated, get permission, to join the cluster.

Edge Devices Share their Stored Data

Data stored in one Edge Cloud Device can be accessed by another Edge Cloud Device in the Peer to Peer Network. Today’s vehicles share data.

Edge Devices Share Analytical Data

Edge Cloud Devices perform analytics at the Edge and can share insights with other Peer Edge Cloud Devices. Modern vehicles can detect a hazard and share evasive maneuver information with other vehicles, Edge Cloud Devices, that may be affected.

Disconnecting from a Cluster

Edge Devices must be able to disconnect from the Peer-to-Peer cluster and still maintain its identity while not impacting the remaining Peer-to-Peer cluster’s ability to process. When the Edge device reconnects it is automatically recognized in the cluster. Smart cars disconnect and reconnect to Edge Devices and Clouds.

Returning to a Central Location

Edge Devices must be aware when it returns to a central location. When the Smart Car returns to the Central location, the dealership, the dealer can identify the vehicle by its unique ID.

Transferring Data to the Cloud

Edge Devices must be able to communicate with the central cloud. Not all data that is created is sent back to the Cloud, only data insights are sent back; performance metrics, environmental data, road conditions, etc.

Analytics talking to Analytics

Analytics from one Edge Devices can inform the Analytics in another Edge Device making the receiving Edge Device more aware. When a Smart Car identifies a road hazard this is sent to the Cloud and then transmitted to other Smart Cars that can benefit from this insight.

Configuring Edge Cloud Devices

Edge Devices can be configured remotely with new features and algorithms. Vehicles are routinely updated remotely.

Reconfigure

Edge Devices can be reconfigured and deployed to a different location. The vehicle is sent back to the dealership to be reconfigured.
