Senior Technical Advisor
Bob Carlson is a co-founder and Senior Technical Advisor for YottaStor focusing on HyperScale storage architectures for the fast growing machine-generated, large object market requirement. Bob has over 30 years of experience delivering innovative and mission critical IT solutions to customers. He has been a senior executive at both IBM and Andersen Consulting and has launched three startup companies. Post 9/11 Bob assumed responsibility as the IBM Vice President/General Manager for the WebFountain program, a major IBM research initiative working with the intelligence community. WebFountain became the primary means of gathering open source intelligence for the first five years of the global war on terror and its technology subsequently found its place in the IBM Watson solution. Bob led a global IBM team of more than 100 IBM Researchers developing breakthrough webscale technologies. From 2002 to 2006, WebFountain crawled more web pages and maintained a larger index than the leading commercial search companies such as Google, Yahoo and AltaVista. Bob’s team created significant patents in the search, analytics, cloud and big data areas.
For the past four years YottaStor has focused on the emerging exabyte scale storage requirement behind the enterprise firewall for machine-generated data types. During this time Bob has worked with various commercial and government organizations on the benefits of purposed-built clouds to address the emerging business requirement.
Bob is an accomplished presenter keynoting at various industry forum for organizations like Gartner, IDC, and AFCEA. He recently was a keynote presenter at the Next Gen Object Storage Conference held in San Francisco. Bob has been awarded 2 US Patents – SYSTEM, METHOD and COMPUTER PROGRAM PRODUCT FOR CONCEPT-BASED SEARCHING AND ANALYSIS and METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENTERPRISE WIDE STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL OF LARGE AMOUNTS OF DATA.
